ADVANCED

MASTERCLASS: THE ART OF PRODUCT LINE EXTENSION

 

Prerequisites:

Entrepreneurship 101 and Launching Your Online Shop (or equivalent experience)

 

Please note:

Completion of this course is required if you wish to participate in the virtual pop-up shop and have already completed the aforementioned prerequisites.

girls may participate in the optional Virtual Pop-up Shop December 3 - 5.

Entrepreneurship 101

Prerequisites: None; All are welcome
3:00 - 4:30 PM; Virtual via Zoom

This 90-minute session will cover:

  • Identifying an idea based on your passion or a market need

  • Defining your target customer

  • Conducting benchmarking research

  • Calculating cost, price and margin

  • Developing your product

  • Developing and delivering a 30-second sales pitch

  • Branding & marketing
  • Identifying sales channels

 

Note: If you would like to participate in the virtual pop-up shop, you must also take "Launching Your Online Shop"

NOV 7

Launching Your Online Shop
Prerequisites: Entrepreneurship 101 or Nasdaq Camp or Accelerator

1:00 - 2:30 PM; Virtual via Zoom

This 90-minute session will cover:

  • Capturing professional-quality product photos with your smartphone

  • Developing your online storefront with Etsy & Square

  • Uploading product inventory

  • Determining shipping & logistics strategies

  • Safety & Security

 

Completion of this course is required if you wish to participate in the virtual pop-up shop and do not currently have an online shop.

ADVANCED

NOV 7

The Art of Product Line Extension

Prerequisites: Entrepreneurship 101 & Launching Your Online Shop or Equivalent Experience

3:00 - 4:30 PM; Virtual via Zoom

Product line extension is the use of an established product for a new item in the same product category. This 90-minute session will cover:

  • Understanding product line extension

  • Studying corporate examples for product line extension

  • Identifying your "rockstar" product

  • Learning strategies to help expand your offerings through product line extension

  • Working in break-out groups to ideate your own product line extension opportunities
     

Completion of this course is required if you wish to participate in the virtual pop-up shop and do not currently have an online shop.

POP-UP SHOP

DEC 3 - 5

Virtual Pop-up Shop 

Prerequisites: Launching Your Online Shop & Masterclass series

To ensure a great experience for your child and their customers:

  • Store inventory must accurately reflect in-stock merchandise and/or your child's capacity to produce and ship products by Sunday, December 12

  • Participants should periodically monitor inventory and make an announcement when all items are sold out

  • As a safety precaution, parents should monitor and respond to online customer inquiries

TUITION:

Tuition for this program is $75 per child. 

Note: Girls Crushing It is an educational nonprofit. Your tuition covers educational workshops. The pop-up shop is a free, optional add-on for girls to grow their leadership skills and confidence. As such, tuition should not included when calculating your child's business expenses.

CONSIDERATIONS:

  • Business experience is not required to apply for this program, however applicants should have a well-honed business idea.

  • Adult participation in all stages of business development is encouraged and necessary for some elements of online shop creation

  • We are unable to accommodate businesses selling services, food or other perishable items. 

  • This virtual program are geared for ages 10 - 18.

 

DATES, MILESTONES & EXPECTATIONS

NOVEMBER 21

Website submission and inventory check-in

In order to help girls succeed, we are requiring some checkpoints:

  • Provide the link to your online store

  • Submit 2 - 3 photos to be used in your shop listing

  • Sign-up for (optional) online shop audit, where our staff will review and provide feedback on your online shop

Note: We will not be collecting product samples this year. Participants will be responsible for providing high quality product photography for inclusion in their shop listing.

DECEMBER 3 - 5

Your child will be expected to have an operational online shop December 3 - 5. They will also be expected to:

  • PRODUCE AND MAKE AVAILABLE FOR SALE ONLINE between 25 - 50 pieces of inventory, depending on price point and labor intensity. Participants will set their own inventory production goals.

  • CREATE AN ONLINE SHOP on Etsy, Square or other platform.

  • ENSURE YOUR ONLINE SHOP IS OPEN FOR BUSINESS from December 3 - 5 for our Virtual Pop-up Shop.

  • PERIODICALLY MONITOR THEIR ONLINE SHOP DEC 3 - 5 to respond to customer inquiries and monitor inventory levels.

DECEMBER 12

Deadline for shipping orders is December 12
To ensure timely arrival:

  • Ship orders by December 12

  • Clearly communicate your shipping time frame to customers
