IN-PERSON POP-UPS ARE BACK!

OVERVIEW

We're kicking off the 2022 Season with our Entrepreneurship 101 workshop, which is open to participants of all experience levels. More seasoned entrepreneurs will take part in our Advanced workshop, exploring the paths of three dynamic women founders whose mission-driven enterprises are making an impact in the world. Participants will leave our workshops empowered and inspired to crush it at our Spring Pop-up Shop in Orinda, California!

BEGINNER​

ENTREPRENEURSHIP 101 WORKSHOP

Prerequisites:

None; all are welcome

Please note:

Completion of this course (current or past) is required for participation in the pop-up shop

Upon completion of "Entrepreneurship 101" or "Founder Hour: Products with Purpose", students may participate in the optional Spring Pop-up Shop

BEGINNER​

MARCH 20

Entrepreneurship 101

Prerequisites: None; All are welcome
1:00 - 2:00 PM; Virtual via Zoom

This 60-minute session will cover:​

  • Identifying an idea based on your passion or a market need

  • Defining your target customer

  • Conducting benchmarking research

  • Calculating cost, price and margin

  • Developing your product

  • Crafting and delivering an elevator  pitch

  • Developing a basic financial plan 
     

Note: Completion of this course, Nasdaq Camp or Accelerator (current or past) is required for participation in the pop-up shop

ADVANCED

MARCH 20

FOUNDER HOUR WORKSHOP: PRODUCTS WITH PURPOSE

Prerequisites: Entrepreneurship 101 

3:00 - 4:00 PM; Virtual via Zoom

This 60-minute session will cover:​

  • Extraordinary entrepreneurs in women’s history

  • The responsibilities and characteristics of a founder

  • An up-close look at three visionary women founders (case studies)

  • Key mindset: turning problems into opportunities for impact

  • Design challenge and rapid ideation game

  • Charting your unique path forward

 

Note: Completion of this course is required if you wish to participate in the pop-up shop and have already completed Entrepreneurship 101

POP-UP SHOP

MAY 1

Spring Pop-up Shop 

Prerequisites: Entrepreneurship 101 or Founder Hour

2:00 - 5:00 PM (Arrive at 1:00 PM)

Orinda Library Plaza

Participants will:

  • Actively promote our Spring Pop-up Shop to ensure a bustling marketplace

  • Produce between 25 - 50 pieces of inventory

  • Merchandise and staff a table with their own one-of-a-kind products or services

  • Pitch their products to shoppers during our Spring Pop-up Shop

  • Fund their business endeavor and keep 100% of their profits (Tuition should not be deducted when calculating profit * )
     

Please note: Upon completion of "Entrepreneurship 101" or "Founder Hour: Products with Purpose", students may participate in the optional Spring Pop-up Shop

CAREFULLY REVIEW THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION BEFORE SUBMITTING YOUR APPLICATION

 

TUITION:​

Tuition for this program is $90 per child. 

* Girls Crushing It is an educational nonprofit. Unlike a craft fair, your tuition/registration fee covers our entrepreneurship programming i.e. curriculum development, instructors etc. The Spring Pop-up Shop is an optional, free event for students to gain practical experience. As such, tuition should not be deducted when calculating your child's profit.

CONSIDERATIONS: ​

  • This program is geared for ages 8 - 17

  • Business experience is not required to apply for this program, however applicants should have a well-honed business idea

  • Drop-off is strictly prohibited for the Spring Pop-up Shop; Parent/guardian must remain on site at all times 

  • We are unable to accommodate businesses selling food

  • Business expenses are the sole responsibility of the participant

  • The pop up shop will be held outdoors. Participants will be expected to follow all applicable Covid-19 protocols and mandates in effect during the time of the event
     

EXPECTATIONS:​

Your child will be expected to adhere to the following Spring Pop-up Shop schedule (parental/guardian support is required):

1:00 - 1:15 PM Arrive and unload supplies

1:15 - 2:00 PM Set up table

2:00 - 5:00 PM Actively manage shop and sell to customers (taking breaks as necessary)

5:00 - 5:30 PM Break down table​

WE PROVIDE THE FOLLOWING TO EACH BUSINESS FOR THE SPRING POP-UP SHOP:​

  • (1) Table​

  • (1) Chair

  • (1) Tablecloth

  • (1) Simple table-top sign with your business name

  • (1) 10x10' Tent (shared 13 other businesses) 
     

YOU WILL NEED TO PROVIDE THE FOLLOWING FOR THE SPRING POP-UP SHOP​

  • Your products

  • Display stands

  • Pricing information (tags, chalkboard signs etc.)

  • Cash box, equipped with change and/or mobile payment processing option (Square, Venmo, Paypal etc.)

  • Packaging supplies (note: gift bags will be available for purchase by shoppers)

  • Water bottle, snacks, sunscreen (note: food truck(s) will be on site)
