Girls Crushing It is a Bay Area-based nonprofit dedicated to empowering girls through entrepreneurship. Since 2018, we've been cultivating the entrepreneurial spirits of hundreds of girls with our MBA-inspired curriculum. Our in-person (and now virtual) pop-up shops have been attended by 12,000+ customers. We're thrilled to be expanding to East Contra Costa (ECC) and invite you to join our Spring 2021 cohort of young entrepreneurs.

WHO SHOULD PARTICIPATE?

Our Spring 2021 ECC program is ideal for tweens and teens who have developed a product or product idea or who are in the early stages of starting a business or who would like to get one kick-started. Previous experience is not required.

FEB 7

Zoom Workshop #1:

Entrepreneurship 101
2:00 - 3:30 PM

This 90-minute session will cover:​

  • Identifying an idea based on your passion or a market need

  • Defining your target customer

  • Conducting benchmarking research

  • Calculating cost, price and margin

  • Developing your product

  • Developing and delivering a 30-second sales pitch

  • Branding & marketing
  • Identifying sales channels

FEB 21

Zoom Workshop #2:

Launching Your Online Shop
2:00 - 3:30 PM

This 90-minute session will cover:​

  • Capturing professional-quality product photos with your smartphone

  • Developing your online storefront with Etsy & Square

  • Uploading product inventory

  • Determining shipping & logistics strategies

  • Safety & Security

FEB 28

Product Samples Due

Each participant is required to mail (1) product sample.

  • Products will be photographed for inclusion in our virtual pop-up shop website and will be used for promotional purposes including print collateral, live product demos and unboxing videos etc.

  • Please note products will not be returned

MAR 7

Website submission and inventory check-in

In order to help girls succeed, we are requiring some checkpoints:

  • Provide the link to your online store

  • Submit Inventory Check-in Report, including photos

  • Sign-up for (optional) online shop audit, where our staff will review and provide feedback on your online shop

MAR 19-21

Virtual Pop-up Shop will be open for business

To ensure a great experience for our girlpreneurs and their customers:

  • Store inventory must accurately reflect in-stock merchandise

  • Girlpreneurs should periodically monitor inventory and make an announcement when all items are sold out

  • As a safety precaution, parents should monitor and respond to online customer inquiries

MAR 28

Deadline for shipping orders is March 28
To ensure timely arrival:

  • Ship orders between March 22 - 28

CAREFULLY READ THE FOLLOWING GUIDELINES AND REQUIREMENTS PRIOR TO SUBMITTING YOUR CHILD’S APPLICATION. YOUR CHILD WILL BE EXPECTED TO:

​

  • PRODUCE AND MAKE AVAILABLE FOR SALE ONLINE between 12 - 50 pieces of inventory, depending on price point and labor intensity. Girls will set their own inventory production goals.

  • CREATE AN ONLINE SHOP on Etsy, Square or other platform

  • ENSURE YOUR ONLINE SHOP IS OPEN FOR BUSINESS from March 19 - 21 for our ECC Virtual Pop-up Shop.

  • DESIGN OR MAKE the products sold in their online shop i.e. simply buying, marking up and reselling a mass-produced product is not permitted.

  • NOTE: We are unable to accomodate businesses selling services, food or other perishable items.
